Good Friday was a sad, but sweet day in our family. Kyle's Granny passed away, and it was bittersweet to say the least. She loved my babies, and mostly, she loved her Kyle Ed. She made him fried okra at every meal, and she made the best HOT pineapple pudding. It was the weirdest thing to me to have hot pudding, but it was amazing! At the funeral, they spoke about her famous cheese dip (it was just plain ol' rotel and cheese!) At her house, it was the best cheese dip you've ever eaten!
Three years ago, Granny lost her sweetie, and her heart hasn't been full since he passed away. While we will miss her abundantly, I can only imagine that she is sitting side-by-side with Grandpa. They were married for more than 60 years…so amazing and such an inspiration. A little over 11 years ago, it was this sweet lady who encouraged Kyle to ask me to marry him.
Her house was full of these little red glass birds. Her tea towels had imprints of these birds, and they were literally all over her house. I'm not sure how she came about the first little bird, but she thought it was cute, smiled, and went on. Over time, the kids and grandkids would buy them for her as gifts. Each Christmas, we'd sit around and open gifts, and Granny would ALWAYS get a red bird of some sort. A few years back, she confided in Kyle that she really wasn't a fan of the red birds, but she was sure amazed that her family loved her enough to get her so many of them. I still giggle every time I see one of those birds because it was such a sweet secret.
Seeing her family, her four children especially, heartbroken from losing their sweet mama made me want, even more than ever, to be a mom that is missed, genuinely missed. In the end, Granny's legacy is her love for The Lord and her family. Nothing more really matters.
